The Stags Leap District

One of Napa Valley's most celebrated appellations — and the place we call home.

Where Cabernet Sauvignon Found Its Voice

The Stags Leap District AVA is a 2,700-acre appellation on the eastern side of Napa Valley, sheltered by the volcanic Stags Leap Palisades. The district earned worldwide recognition in 1976 when a Stags Leap wine won the Judgment of Paris, forever changing the perception of California winemaking.

Today, the district is home to fewer than 40 wineries — most of them family-owned, including Baldacci Family Vineyards. The combination of volcanic soils, warm days, and cool evening breezes from the San Pablo Bay produces Cabernet Sauvignon with a signature balance of power and elegance that no other region replicates.

Our Estate in the District

Baldacci Family Vineyards sits at 6236 Silverado Trail, in the heart of the Stags Leap District. Thomas Baldacci purchased the property in 1998, and the family has farmed it organically ever since — earning CCOF certification for all estate vineyards.

The Stags Leap estate is where we grow the Cabernet Sauvignon that defines our program — including our Black Label, Winemaker's Collection, and Brenda's Vineyard bottlings. Winemaker Michael Baldacci works each block individually, fermenting in small lots and aging in French oak barrels from Tonnellerie Ô.

Visit the Stags Leap District

We welcome visitors daily from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM by appointment. Our Cave Tour & Tasting takes you inside our wine caves for a barrel tasting with Michael, followed by a seated flight of estate wines paired with local cheese and charcuterie.

The Stags Leap District is one of the most walkable wine appellations in Napa Valley — several neighboring wineries are within a short drive along the Silverado Trail, making it easy to build a full day of tastings.
